Shihezi University overview
Shihezi University (SHZU) was founded in 1949. The brochure describes it as the second-largest government university in Xinjiang and part of the 211 Project.
The English-taught MBBS program for international students was launched in 2002. The brochure notes more than 14 batches of international graduates and more than 400 foreign students from countries including Pakistan, India, Ukraine, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kazakhstan and Bangladesh.
The medical syllabus starts from the first day, and the program runs for six years including the internship. The university has 30 affiliated hospitals, 10 of them rated "AAA grade". Shihezi is in a Muslim-populated area, with halal food easily available and separate, centrally heated hostels. The brochure notes it is about a 2.5-hour direct flight from Pakistan.
