Hainan Medical University (HMU) is a provincial public medical university in Haikou, the capital of Hainan Province. Its roots go back to two medical schools founded in 1947 and 1948, and the university was established in 1993.
China Daily's 2019 university profile reports about 1,000 lecturers and 11,604 students, including 393 international students from 32 countries and regions, with seven affiliated hospitals and 101 training centers. Hainan is a tropical island province, and the profile describes HMU as the only medical institute of higher learning in China's tropical region.
