Frequently asked questions

What is HSK 2.0?

HSK 2.0 is the six-level Chinese proficiency standard with about 5,000 words in total. Levels 1 to 4 add 150, 150, 300 and 600 new words, which makes 1,200 words by Level 4.

How many words do I need for each HSK 2.0 level?

Level 1 needs 150 words, Level 2 needs 300 in total, Level 3 needs 600 in total and Level 4 needs 1,200 in total. Each level page lists only the new words for that level.

Which HSK 2.0 level do I need for a China scholarship?

It depends on the programme and university. Chinese-taught degrees often ask for HSK 4 or higher, while English-taught programmes may not require HSK. Message us on WhatsApp and we will check your target university.

Are HSK 2.0 Levels 5 and 6 available?

Not yet. Levels 1 to 4 are live and Levels 5 and 6 are being prepared. Message us on WhatsApp if you want to know when they are ready.

Is the HSK 2.0 material free?

Yes. All level pages are free with audio, stroke order, example sentences, flashcards, a quiz and grammar. No account is needed.

Should I study HSK 2.0 or HSK 3.0?

Study the version your exam, school or university asks for. See the HSK 3.0 hub if you need the newer nine-level standard.
